Holey moley, 6 pups safely delivered!

Possibly our final litter, the jury is out on that one. Treacle and James have delivered and welcomed 6 new children. black boys and girls and one brown girl. Liquorice allsorts and a chocolate drop! we are all weary, delivery occurred in the early hours of this morning. Hoping to make us some sleep today. Guessing poor Treacle won't be making up her rest for a little while. The kitchen echoes with the squeaks and gulps of tiny doggie voices. The farmer loves it. He adores puppies, though he can't eat a whole one!

 Thought you might like to see James being a farm dog, mousing in the hay bales, he really does live an outdoor life, despite being smaller than the cat.

And here are his 8 children, now 4 1/2 weeks old, the biggest weighing in at 1800g, and the smallest at 1300g. All reserved, they are doing really well. Very cute.

Starting at 11am yesterday, and finishing 13 hours later Treacle whelped 8 (OMG) 8 puppies. There are 3 chocolate drop brown boys, and 5 coal black boys & girls all with white bibs.

She did remarkably well considering this is her first litter, and we are very proud of her. She is overwhelmed with her new children, and is doing a great job. The farmer and I are exhausted,  midwifery is very stressful, and so we are having a quiet Sunday to catch up with some R&R. The kitchen chorus is now squeaks and whines from these numerous babes, and I foresee 8 weeks of hard work to come.... 8 weeks of

Back to Summer 2010

Fudge had her very first litter of pedigree working cockers in 2010, all of whom have stayed in touch. Today one of her first-born daughters was brought to visit. Here she is. Her working name is Chloe, and she spends her days travelling around the country with her agronomist owner in the back of a very nice car, and then descending and walking the fields keeping her human company. What a wonderful life.

Her mother didn't know her, and James thought she had arrived for him. Her Aunt thought she was lovely!

James has finally managed to capture the heart, and honour, of Treacle, our second cocker spaniel. Her sister has happily bred a couple of litters for us (and is now enjoying a long and happy retirement having been spayed).  Treacle has been less willing to join the ranks of motherhood. However, James managed to sneak up on her whilst she was investigating a rabbit hole in the meadow at 7.15am!

Obviously impending fatherhood is a weary thought, and the cold weather, with rain and wind, is keeping him indoors and closely associated with the log burner.

Treacle is much more weather tolerant, and has spent the afternoon digging moles out in the meadows, which leaves her mud spattered but happy and tired.

This is one of our last litter of puppies. She is called Daisy and lives at Richmond Park, London. She takes her exercise amongst the wild deer and is undergoing deer de-sensitising in this photo.

 

Daisy is absolutely typical of our cockerpoo pups, a very dense coat, which will need attention from a groomer for clipping on a regular basis. It is this special coat that holds in the moulted hair and stops it dropping on your floor and carpet. If it is not groomed and clipped it turns into dreadlocks!

 

Their temperaments are amazing, they are very quick to learn and make robust and healthy family pets. Cockerpoos enjoy all the benefits of HYBRID VIGOUR and do not suffer from any of the ailments that pedigree dogs can carry.

Jack-a-doodles

James has a new set of daughters and sons, born early March, and looking for new owners mid May. Three chocolate girlies and one champagne with chocolate spots young man. 5 weeks old today

This is Auntie Treacle, snuggling up with her nephew and nieces. Now that they are out and about in the kitchen their mother has had to permit some sharing. And Treacle is absolutely delighted. The proud father is very kind to them, but not as desperate to share his slumber with three wriggling pups as their Aunt. They are growing amazingly, and their new owners are keen to take possession just as soon as possible.

7 days old. Have doubled their birth weights, and are feeding really well. One of the girls is the biggest in the litter, and will be a bit of a bruiser, the other girl is going to be lighter and more lady-like.... Obviously the incredibly handsome boy will be a showstopper!

 

New family doing well. Mum recovering from her caesarian speedily and with gusto. Already slipping out with James and Treacle for a run around the farm when the babes are quiet. With only three young 'uns she has milk a-plenty and they are like little, fat seals. James has not, so far, been permitted to approach the inner sanctum of the whelping box, but he is guarding it well from marauders.

THis morning 12.11.12 at 7.30am to Fudge, three puppies, two black girls and a chocolate boy. James delighted father. By emergency casesarian section, so bit fragile this afternoon, fingers crossed for swift and comfortable recovery. Pups feeding well.

48 hours prior to delivery the youngest son of the house came home. My, my, my. The girls were pleased to see him.

Just chillin' with one of my girlies at home. This one is Fudge. She's always happy to share her bed with a dude like me. And, of course, I love her to bits, especially on cold evenings.....

My mum took me to the poodle parlour today, for a short back and sides (all over). The groomer noticed something I have been making a fuss about for a few days. My ears are sore inside (again). I've been telling my servants repeatedly, but they wouldn't listen, took a hairdresser to get the message across. Therefore, to my alarm, the mumservant is taking me to the Veterinary fellow this afternoon, so I have had to endure the trauma of 2 hours being washed and shaved, only to visit the man with the needles this afternoon. Obviously the god of dogs is not smiling on me today. Grrrrr.

After a shave.

 We keep his very dense and curly coat shaved short because James lives on a working farm, and spends hours gambolling around in the thistles and long grass. Therefore, for him, less hair is best!

Here he is in front of the fire, with a couple of our own, home bred cockerpoo pups. He's a great dad and playmate, being very kind and gentle with the small ones.

Our own two cocker bitches, and James, making the most of the stove. Our girls, and James, are house-dogs and share the kitchen with us. Mostly hogging the old mat in front of the heat....

It costs £100 to use James as a stud dog. It is usual to bring your bitch twice, ideally on the 10th to 14th day of her season (counting from the first day you see drops of red). When she is ready she will hold her tail right out to the side.

 

If the mating is unsuccessful, and no puppies are born, you need a note from your vet within 7 days of the due date, and you can then have a free return on the next season for the same bitch. This is non-transferable to another bitch.

 

We are happy to help and advise you to the best of our ability, though we are not Vets, and veterinary help should always be sought in the event of an emergency.
